  1. This principal applies to many of our long term feelings. In the long term we can choose to be at peace or not, to forgive or not, to be angry or not. In the short term our emotions crop up in direct response to stimuli, but we should treat those as a notification system that lets us know something is wrong or good. What we do with those emotional notifications after the immediate stimulus has ended is up to us.
