  1. I am more of an eating out kind of guy than my wife, the lovely author of this blog, but she does make eating in interesting by trying new recipes. What she said about a bad restaurant choice making for a good story, as long as you have the right attitude, is equally true at home.

For example, take the dinner she described. With Lauren’s permission, let me tell the rest of the story. It was a great surprise and a lovely date, but half of the food was inedible.

The orzo salad was good, but the cajun chicken was almost too salty to stomach. We have only been married a few months and are definitely still getting used to living together, so I was not really sure what to do when I took my first bite of chicken. I knew Lauren had worked really hard to make this a special night, and I didn’t want her to feel like she had spoiled it. I did my best to eat what she put on my plate. I cut the chicken into little pieces and mixed it in with the orzo salad hoping to cut the saltiness. I managed to get through two thirds of it before I realized that Lauren had given up on hers after only a few bites. She knew it was no good and was touched that I made such an effort to eat all of mine.

We had a good laugh and learned not to add salt when using a mixed seasoning that already includes salt. Even though it was not her best cooking it was one of our most memorable date nights.
