I always look for the (for lack of a better word) ‘ethnic’ part of town and have a meal at a restaurant where the menu is in their native language (Korean, Japanese, Swahili, you get the idea). Bonus points if you have to use Google translate or ask for an English menu from the back.
If I end up in a restaurant where I can’t read the menu I usually just end up pointing at something and enjoying the surprise! 😉
Look for a coffee shop…and I don’t mean a Starbucks, either! A quaint little mom and pop joint, preferably with a used bookstore attached, where you can either start up a conversation, people watch, or write comfortably among kindred spirits 🙂
Ahhh…bliss!!
